In the winter of 2019-2020, my husband deployed to Afghanistan.
They weren't sure what "war looks like.
They missed his presence throughout holidays, birthdays and family milestones.
They wondered,
At one point, my oldest began researching Afghanistan while at school.
Some days, it probably feels the way.
At some point, the number really doesn’t make a difference.
"Mom! Guess how far Afghanistan is? 14,000 miles!"
was he fighting people?
They weren't sure what exactly he would be doing in this war.
My daughters couldn’t understand quite what this meant or how to make sense of it but they tried.
